is a native of Billings, Montana – one of seven pastors to come out of one of the smallest congregations in Montana, Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Following high school, Pastor Olson attended Whitworth College (now Whitworth University) in Spokane, Washington on a baseball scholarship. He began his studies as a math/computer science major, but eventually graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Arts Administration. During the ten years immediately following college, he worked in both health care administration and college administration, and began pursuit of a Masters degree in guidance and counseling. In 1984 Pastor Olson felt a clear call to ministry, and in 1985 enrolled at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. In the spring of 1988 he received his Master of Divinity degree, and in August of that same year was called to be associate pastor at Messiah Lutheran Church in Auburn, Washington – a congregation he served for 17 years, primarily focusing on ministries with children, youth and families.
In 2005 he was invited to become senior pastor at Faith Lutheran Church in Shelton, Washington. Initially drawn by the warmth and friendliness of the people of Faith, he is now taken by their deep caring and concern for one another.

Pastor Olson is married to the former Jill Denise Gambill, who works as a children’s services supervisor for the King County Library System. The Olsons have two adult children: Sara is a professional circus performer and massage therapist, and Ryan manages a prominent Seattle restaurant.
