Love & ServePrison Ministry

Faith Lutheran Church has a very special relationship with another Lutheran congregation in Shelton:  The Living Stones Prison Congregation.

Living Stones is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Prison Congregations of America.  It is located inside of the Washington Corrections Center in Shelton.

Faith has been instrumental in the growth of this ministry.  Not only does our congregation host the office and provide vital administrative support for Living Stones, our congregation is one of the single largest financial contributors to the ministry in our synod.

Members of Faith worship with the men of Living Stones on an annual basis.  Our next available worship is June 5, 2010Space is limited.  If you are interested in worshiping on that date, please contact Doug & Marilyn HPlease note that background checks are required for all persons who visit the prison congregation.

In addition, members of Faith will occasionally "fill-in" when one of the 95 congregations of our synod must cancel their worship date or cannot find very many people to come. If you are interested in being on a list of persons to fill in at the last minute, please contact Pastor Eric Wangen-Hoch.

Reflection on a recent visit to Living Stones Prison Congregation:

Doug and I are pleased to be a part of Prison Ministry and our visitation to the Shelton Corrections Center.  The Living Stones Congregation is full of enthusiasm and genuine eagerness to be a family of God.

We never thought that we would be anxious to visit and look forward to worshiping with convicts…..but here we are shaking hands, sharing God’s peace and the sharing of bread and wine.  The band is loud and nothing like what we are use to, but again the enthusiasm is contagious.  We wish that we could bring one of their services to Faith Lutheran and have all of you see how hungry these men are for the word of God and the fellowship with outsiders.

Doug and I find ourselves praying for these men and hoping that thru this wonderful ministry that Pastor Eric Wangen-Hoch is bringing to them that they will have a better life when (or if) they are released..  It is easy for us to reach out to them behind bars, but the big question is how would we feel if one of them would show up at Faith Lutheran Church.  We certainly know what Christ would want us to do and that is when the strongest prayers are said.

Your friends in Christ,

Doug and Marilyn H.
